Thanks, Mom!

My mom was a phenomenal cook and baker.  One of her holiday staples was her cheesecake.  I’ve been after the recipe for months now, and finally got it!  Turns out my cousin Joe’s daughter Erica used a gluten free version of mom’s cheesecake recipe as her WEDDING CAKE!  Joe sent me the recipe and I made one on Wednesday, to have as dessert on Thanksgiving.

All I can say is OH MY GODS!  Granted, it’s been at least 7 years, if not longer, since I had this cheesecake, but WOW is it good.  It was a unanimous hit after dinner :)

Cyclamen Series

…and some more photos…  I had STARTED to take these photos when I was interrupted by the small fuzzy orange critter.

I’ve heard over and over again how difficult cyclamen are to keep.  I’ve heard that the care instructions are “enjoy until they die then throw them away”.  I guess I like a challenge.  I’ve had the white with the dark pink ring around the inside/bottom for over a year.  The other two I picked up early this year at Wal-Mart.  The first one I *thought* went into it’s dormant state, so I cut back the wilting leaves and let it start to dry out (the other care instructions I’ve found).  I had intended to let it dry out for a few months then start watering it again.  Nope…  within a couple of weeks I had new green growth and flowers followed.  These three plants have been thriving and blooming continuously since I brought them home.

You’ll find these little beauties during the winter months in garden centers and floral departments.  I’ll be looking for more in the next couple of months!

Duncan’s Feminine Side

Since the moment I brought him home, I knew Duncan was “different”.  I’ve never been owned by an orange cat, never been owned by a longish-haired cat.  Duncan is both.  He is very affectionate, and has a wicked streak.  We’ve been told that he very well might have some Maine Coon in him, from people who’ve seen him in person, as well as online through photos.

Today I was trying to take some photos of my cyclamen plants, and while focusing in on the blooms, I noticed the plant move.  Yea.  Guess who.
